Hiking Alone Together
I love to hike by myself, not only for the quiet, but to set my own pace, stop and take pictures or just sit and breathe, at will. Late afternoons are my favorite time and I often find myself returning to the car after dark. It occurred to me that others might like this as well but for any number of reasons would be hesitant to be out on some trail alone - especially with the sun going down. Hiking alone, but within shouting distance of a companion seemed a solution, and the phrase "Hiking Alone Together" popped into my head.
The act of hiking, both mental and physical, for me stirs up a bunch of metaphors for life, which I hope to expand on here. As we make our way though life, we can sometimes feel alone, but we're not. We are in this life together, and may we always have someone within shouting distance.
Hiking is also my meditation, my therapy, and my test kitchen for ideas and works in progress. I am building this website in hopes of organizing those thoughts and works.
It will also house my iPhone camera hobby experiments: photos, and slow-motion and time-lapse videos captured while out on my favorite trails. Many of these will be found on the latest updates page.
As for the works, these are currently self-sponsored projects I hope to expand through non-profit charitable fund raising efforts and grants. I am right now learning how to do just that, so we shall see.
I will also include a journal of an upcoming (Sept/Oct 2016) walk across Spain - Camino Explore.
Note: clicking on most of the photos on this website will open a new window with the full size image, which can be enlarge further with most browsers. All the photography and videos are captured on iPhones, without apology. The photo directly below was taken two springs ago in an area I call the Satwiwa Savanna in Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa National Recreation Area, in the Western most portion of the Santa Monica Mountains.
